GCK 4.5 Offers New Menu Action Items & Automated Routines to Increase Productivity

Textco BioSoftware, Inc. today announced the release of Gene Construction Kit® 4.5, an upgraded version of the award-winning DNA plasmid mapping and analysis software (GCK). For more than 30 years, GCK has been the cloning tool of choice for tens of thousands of scientists worldwide. This version of GCK features many unique and time-saving enhancements, all designed to make analyzing, formatting, and annotating GCK constructs more automated and efficient.
GCK 4.5 builds upon the foundation of the AutoFeature File (introduced in GCK 4.0), by adding Auto Annotation – a new extension that when turned on, provides a link between a GCK construct file and an AutoFeature file.
With AutoAnnotation enabled, GCK will keep track of any changes made to the underlying DNA sequence in the construct file (i.e. insertion, deletion or base substitution). Also, GCK will monitor the linked AutoFeature file for any additions, deletions or modifications to existing entries to stored Features or Segments.
A check mark will be placed beside the AutoAnnotation… selection under the Construct menu, indicating the feature is turned on, and the Construct and AutoFeature file are in-sync.
Macintosh users of GCK 4.5 will notice toolbar icons that offer clickable shortcuts to many of the commonly used operations in the application. The toolbar can be customized for each file type window (e.g. Construct, Illustration or Gel), and preferred toolbar sets are stored in a Users preference folder. Control-click (right-mouse click) on the top of the file window in the toolbar area to bring up the various buttons that are available.
Updates for compatibility with Mac OS 10.13 (High Sierra) and Windows 10, as well as feature enhancements and bug fixes are also included.
NOTE: Windows 10 “Fall Creators Update” (version 1709) is currently not fully supported (versions 1507-1703 are tested and functioning). If you encounter an error, please let us know. We will update as we learn more from Microsoft.
