In the May edition of the Textco BioSoftware newsletter, we review using “Analysis Suites” in Gene Inspector® to add consistency and efficiency to your lab. Through the ability to create new Analysis Setup Windows as menu items, you can assemble a set of custom analyses – or Analysis Suites – having all the parameters defined in a way which works best for your purposes. Give the Analysis Suite a name, and the suite can be reused by any member of the lab simply by selecting the item from a menu – no need to remember which analyses you ran last time, and how parameters should be defined in the setup.
You will also find some tips for working with GCK’s redesigned ‘Find Sequence’ engine which can save time and increase accuracy when looking for sequences that might have base variations. We describe how one could search for primers that have synthetic tails that might vary from construct to construct. By using upper case characters to define ‘conserved’ sequence stretches – and lower case characters to represent those DNA bases that might vary from sequence to sequence, the new “Find Sequence” dialog can help you accomplish this unique task.
